View Full Version : Enterprise Level EMR - OpenSource

Been busy writing and converting code... (hence my silence in here).
Wanted to let others know about another free EMR application available that actually is designed for the enterprise (but could probably easily be fit in to a regular practice).
there are a lot of large hospitals using it already, although the Mac OS X version (the one I did) is new (as in a few days).
I know there were a few folks on here who said open source was not a valid platform for healthcare... this application blows that myth away.
Sort of reminds me of when Bill Gates said "Linux is not a threat" in 1999 ;)
Now Microsoft is threatening Asian countries because they have mass dropped Microsoft products... lets hope we follow! :) :)

I am also demo'ing the care2xmac application to several large hospital facilities, hopefully it will go forward - the price is definitely right :)

I was very impressed... I got on board with their development, and am adding the speech recognition software, and a lot of DICOM enables features.
Everyone I have shown it to is literally amazed.
Care2X/Care2XMac is enterprise level... My Life Record project will be ideal (in my biased opinion) for general practice. And of course, seamlessly integrates with the enterprise Care2XMac.

Going to meditec, that is funny.

its great piece of software .. I have it on my server
just word from the old phart. Dont get too worried if folks dont want to use Mac's.
You will find a serious undertow called ignorance in the IT world....
If they get real pissy run it on a linux box..

you have to pitch the program on its merits tho. Using the MS sucks mantra Penguins rule its can easily kill a pitch .
The fact that the app is linux based is an icing on the cake factor..
Negative pitches dont really work as who would want to deal with a zealot..
If it wasn't for MS we would still be using profs and be dealing with mainframes.. So with age you learn to temper your thoughts..
I have been crushed by all so 1's and 0's are equal opportunity abusers.. LOL
I understand the vigor, but use your strength in a positive way .

Understood - I don't pitch the OS at all when I show these things off... in fact I rarely bring it up myself.
Most of the time the physicians ask what I am using.
It's pretty impressive to the end user when I am in front of 500 or so people and say "show echocardiogram for michael pike" and it pops up the echoviewer automatically... the speech stuff blows them away. And for the most part, I cannot take credit for the voice interaction, that's the OS.
I've got some "preview" versions of Life Record out right now... a physician had actually asked "will you support this on Windows". I told him there were no plans for that (although it will run in Windows for the client), and explained why. (This was about two weeks ago)
I did point him to e-mds website and told them that they had a viable product that would run under Windows. I don't know what happened, but I got an email this morning saying he had ordered a G5, and would be installing Life Record as soon as his hardware comes in.
The biggest issue I run in to with both Life Record and Care2XMac is the "support" factor (as you probably do with your Freemed product).
I have a big advantage over a lot of folks because I am very familiar with Cache/Mumps. I was a "star Cache programmer" for a long while (until I flipped to MySQL).
I can generally rip the data out of any Cache/M based system and port it to MySQL in just a week or two (initial development), or if it's a standard package, write it once, and use it anywhere.
I can take information out of EPIC, Meditech, HBOC, and IDX (all M based systems - with EPIC and IDX actually being true cache based) and move it to MySQL very easily.
That's a valuable asset (being able to talk to their legacy system).
Cache/M is easy to understand (IMHO).
We're working in a support network for open source health solutions (though one of the packages I am developping)... let me know if you want information... I am Southwest US, you are Northeast - so the geography is good :)
