Oz probably has the answer, but here's the question
How can I open a port through my software firewall (Zonealarm) to allow access to a specific program listening on that port. Right now I can only do that if I "allow" specific IP addresses into the local zone.

I reckon what I'm looking for is SSH-2 solution that don't cost much. Its mainly to work with Real-VNC on port 5900.

thanks

Daren

I think you can specify by ports in the Professional version of Zone Alarms, but I might be wrong.
RealVNC is cool.

I like RealVNC and its free. I couldn't see for sure if you can open specific ports on Zone Alarm Pro.

Where's Oz??

look up putty its great ssh-2 client
Are you talking about setting up a ssh tunnel and running the app thru that ??

maybe you need to look at PAT port address translation

I'll need to make the tunnel and access through it (server and client?). I'll look for putty.

I wrote an installer (using installshield).. makes it a single setup process like regular apps if that will help (for putty).

I'll have to dig in to my old "windows days" development cd case to get it :)

not much to install using putty just unzip and click..
Setting up do you mean the settings etc ??

if your going windoze to linux look at openvpn http://openvpn.sourceforge.net/

http://www.poptop.org/ I think this is an easier solution as it uses a packaged client within MS (read easy to script in settings )

or buy a cheap ass router
