I am doing research into EMRs and would love any feedback anyone can provide.

How would you rate (1-10 scale) each of the following as reasons to purchase EMR systems:
1 Improve ability to share patient information within a network.
2 Improve overall quality of care
3 Improve clinical processes
4 Improve clinical data capture
5 Facilitate clinical decision support
6 Provide remote access to patient records

Anything I have left out?

Next question:

What is the major reason you haven't implemented an EMR system? Please list which ones and why?

1 Lack of adequate funding/resources
2 Lack of support by the medical staff
3 Inability to find EMR systems or components at an affordable price
4 Difficulty creating a migration plan from paper to electronic records
5 Difficulty finding EMR not fragmented over several vendors or information technology platforms
6 Inadequate health care information standards, data sets, or code sets
7 Difficulty evaluating systems
8 Unable to find EMR that meets application or technical requirements
9 Difficulty making a strong return-on-investment
10 Lack of structured medical terminology case for an EMR
11 Inability to guarantee round-the-clock access to an EMR
12 Other?

MikeH: for shame, you are a researcher! Define the scale dude!
1. No effect on decision to buy
2. Minimal effect on buying decision
3. On the bottom of my list of desired functions
4. In the middle of my list
5. top of my list
6. Wouldn't buy it without this functionality

or something scale like this.

My number 1 - organized information so I can get through a visit faster with higher quality outcomes (reminders); office efficiency
My number 2 - shared information with all stakeholders me, patient, office staff, consultants, hospital
My number 3 - decision support (mainly in form drug interaction and RX writing)

Kursk,
I figured that everyone would give comments on each instead of rating 1 through 10. Also, these are just general questions in regards to purchasing an EMR system. I would have used something similar to your six

With my follow up questions:
What features/components are required: Drug-Drug Interactions, Drug-Food Interactions, Patient Education, HL7 Laboratory Hardware Interfacing, etc...

I have been swamped the last 3 weeks working 5AM to Midnight for an office move and network move.

In my worst Bill Clinton impression..
Moving is just not fun even when you get paid to do it..

part of this question tho is what is an EMR

.
its easy to call it a system which you can hang every techno function off ..
But until this is really defined its very hard to create any form of matrix ..
or subtitled where does an EMR start and finish ???
