I played with your demo some more Ozzie. It is hard to figure out how to do a progress note. I finally figured out how to get to that area. It is slow documenting even a simple visit without any type of template system. It is also hard because each area has its own screen (Subjective, objective, assesment, plan, Rx, etc.). It definitely would not be tablet PC friendly. It would be better if you could see the note all being built on one screen instead of all of those sub-screens. Since the documention system is the most important part to the doctor I think you should work on this area of your EMR next. Overall it is coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.

thanks for the input and yes I know what you are talking about and I believe that change will be added in the next revision..
You can get the template hacked to suite your needs also..

Regarding tablets AFAIK tablets are on the to do list but not a point of focus right now. We are very close to having the final product released. So tablets and PDA's etc may come later but not right now...

Regards documents I am in the middle of a mass documentation project of freeMED. We know a few things are little cryptic and we are mulling over the help options in regards to how the help document will be served.
One of the joys of open source software is you can do what you want however when it comes to the overall product for distribution it must be done by commitee per se. So that take a little time..

Thanks for your feedback it does help and please play more... and let us know what else you find..

Also for the record it NOT my software it belongs to the world..
and I will pass on your kind comments to the rest of the crew

Its important to note that there are just a ziilion ways to do SOAP etc from a layour point of view. The pc platform aka laptop PDA tablet etc would be a variable and the input method also..

What you have now with FreeMEd is really just a basic template..
The key is the fact that you can change the template to suit you needs.
Thus the joy of open source..
here here is one response from one freeMED user (Jeff is one of the developers of FreeMED)
I find the FreeMED interface much more intuitive and a lot easier to work with. I also find the division of the SOAP components very helpful. I actually sponsored Jeff to tweak the progress note module somewhat so that each tab can have a permission associated with it. I can then assign certain tabs to nurses and certain ones to MD's. When we see a patient, the RN would have the opportunity to complete those tabs assigned to him/her and MD's would have access to all tabs to modify the RN data and
complete his/her tasks. This to me seems far more powerful than a
great big text box.

Also you can just pick a tab like say interval and use template of your own..
Down and dirty real simple just cut and paste from notepad or a word doc you have..

So you have really unlimited options,,

hope this makes more sense >>

I have to agree with Buslick, do you have other input means,

Hi!

I have downloaded the manual, but have not had time to read it. Before I invest in an MSAccess upgrade, I wanted to inquire about security and levels of access (ie front office vs nursing vs MD vs administrator[programming changes])

Does the program currently address this, or would I need to learn enough programming and search the MS site to program for this myself?

TIA!

I looked at it way back in May, it was not mature then,
I think their idea is sound.
where is Ozz? Free beta testing for you here

This is not an MS access based application. It is hosted on an open source server and is web based, I believe with mySQL as the database server (an open source database server). The learning curve is a bit steep if you are
coming from an Access user background (access developers are of course more facile with database programing).

1. FreeMED has a template system in it. The templates can be constucted in seconds. I used them all the time (until I retired). If you don't mind putting up with my old slow demonstration server, go to http://www.freemed.info/index.php . Log in as demo. Password demo. Click on Patients -> Select -> Fred Ripley. Go to Progress Notes - > Add - > Add. This allows you to add a template.
2. Several of my colleagues put their entire progress notes in the Interval section. Saves time.

Is FreeMed ever going to go non-Web-based? That would be really great...
