I have a another hard drive that runs linux for my think pad and use Vmware also...

I think you need to tweak Linux to run on a laptop, but I might be wrong

I had spare hard drives so I just have one setup for debian..
Day to day stuff I use vmware as I am in testing mode 99 % of the time.
So its try trash or try save LOL
I used to dual boot but I don't need to anymore as the laptops today are very powerful..
if you need to dual boot read up first..
