View Full Version : Advice Needed - Charge Capture
An EMR developer (no financial ties) would like comments from Docsboard members about a handheld client.
"We'd like to better understand how physicians manage charges. Would you like to be able to view all charges captured for a specific patient across each encounter (i.e., all charges for a given patient)? or would you prefer to view only charges for a specific encounter (i.e., toggle between patient encounters to view all charges that patient)? "
Thanks

huh???? See charges across each encounter OR charges for a specific encounter? What is the difference? What are you really asking?
It would be nice to see the diagnoses of previous encounters, but not mandatory.

If I understood him right, they are trying to decide if having previous patient encouter information would be useful, as opposed to only present admission.
I would think having an automatically generated frequent list of CPT & ICD9 codes would be helpful, especially for specialists, and maybe the ability to dump unused codes to save on RAM.

For Charge capture, during traditional inpatient episode, PDA should limit display to Dx & $ codes for current admission. However, when dealing with current trends of patients being shuttled between outpt dept, short stay, extended short stay, the episode duration should be defined by the illness duration or time during which physician is involved. It certainly gets muddy when this latter option takes place with multiple Docs involved.
