    Free Prescription Software from Allscripts

    Allscripts is going to provide all US docs free prescription capability starting February 07

    This is aimed at the 80% of docs who don't do e-prescribing, and lack an EMR.
    You'll probably have to maintain a list of patients online .. ie. a mini EMR .. so that you can use this properly.

    As this is web based, it may be possible to incorporate it into an existing EMR with some creative programming.

    free stuff

    When I hook on to such a web based entity, I am contributing my data. If it is free, some one is paying for the services. Most likely it is the Big Pharma buying all the info about prescription habits of physicians to use to market their products. So I think thrice before I use it.

    I signed up and did the webcast / intro 2-3 weeks ago. They had promised to get it up and running by mid Feb, but have not heard a word from them since.

    One needs to pay $295 up front and $19.95 per month so that can interface with your practice management system....otherwise you end up typing all the demographics on the patient the first time you Rx for each person.

    It does check for drug interactions and tracks their narcotic use.
